Young Soldier Dies in Crash of Helicopter
    A Spokane youth who had been in the service only seven months has been killed in South Vietnam. Army Pfc. Ronald J. Russell, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Russell, E2911 Columbia, died in a helicpoter crash on Monday. The body is being sent to Hennessey's. Mrs. Russell said a telegram from the Army informed her that her son, a helicopter maintenance crewman, was on an air mission when the craft crashed near Tuy Hoa.
    Spokane native and was graduated in 1965 from Rogers High School. He entered the Army last January and took basic training at Ft. Ord CA. He was transferred in aircraft maintenance service at Ft. Rocker AL, and left the United States June 10. He served in Viet Nam with the 48th AVN Co., 101st Airborne Division. Besides his parents, survivors include brothers, Raymond R. and Robbie R. and a sister, Mrs. Jack Frost, all of Spokane. (Spokesman Review, Spokane WA Aug 66)

Tacoma Youth Slain in VN
    A Tacoma youth who volunteered for duty in Viet Nam and had been there only three weeks was killed Thursday in action near Da Nang.
    Frank W. Selden, 19, son of Mrs. Edith Selden, 3921 N. 19th St. was shot in the chest while serving as a Navy hospital corpsman with the 3rd Marine Division. His father, Frank M. Selden, lives on Vashon Island.
    The youth was a 1965 graduate of Wilson High School. He had joined the Naval Reserve in 1963 and was called to active duty soon after high school graduation. He volunteered for duty in South Viet Nam this year.
    He was active in the Tacoma YMCA's aquatic program and was a member of the swimming team at Wilson High. He also was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. (Tacoma News Tribune, Tacoma WA, 5 Aug 66)

Tacoman Killed in VN Marine Pfc. Jimmy G. Brais, 19, of Tacoma, was killed by fragments from a Viet Cong mortar shell south of Da Nang Wednesday, the Defense Department reported Friday. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Brais Jr., of 9031 S.Park Ave. The youth was born in San Diego and had lived most of his life in Tacoma. He had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Explorer Scouts and a junior member of the Mountaineers. Surviving besides his parents are a brother, Jerry, of the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Brais Sr., of Spokane; and maternal grandmother, Hallie Wildes, of Tacoma. Mountain View Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for local services. (Tacoma News Tribune, Tacoma WA, 12 Aug 1966)

Terry Lee Alexander Funeral services for Army Specialist Terry L. Alexander, 19, were today in the Green Lake Funeral Home with burial in Washelli. He was killed in Viet-Nam 25 Aug (1966). Born in Seattle, Terry attended Ingraham High School. He enlisted in the Army when he was 17 and spent two years in Germany before volunteering for duty in Viet-Nam. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Alexander, Jr., and his grandfather, William R. Alexander of Ryderwood, Cowlitz County.(Evergreen Washelli, Seattle WA Interment Records)

Nemah Soldier Killed in Viet Nam
Private First Class James W. Emerson, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted N. Emerson of Nemah, was killed in action in Vietnam while on duty with the United States Army last Thursday. The young soldier was born 23 Jul 1944 at Raymond and had resided in this area all his live. He was a graduate of Naselle high school in 1962 and entered the service in May 1965. Surviving besides his parents and his grandparents, Mrs. Ora Hampton and Wade Hampton, both of Raymond, and Mrs. Viola Emerson of Nemah, and other relatives. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Murphy Chapel. The Rev. L. R. Phillips will officiate. Vault interment will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery at Menlo. Casket bearers will include Pat Gatens, Paul Bjarnsgard, Gary Tischer, Gary Nakao, Matt Varila and Allen Shores. (Raymond Herald, Raymond WA, Thursday, 1 Sep 1966)

Killed by Shots in Viet Action Spec. 4 Samuel James Larkin, 19, Spokane, has been killed by small arms fire in Viet Nam. Spokane relatives have been notified. He was the 13th Spokane soldier killed in Viet Nam. A brother, Donald Larkin, E3403 Jackson, said today the family has been notified of the death of the former Rogers High School student and Spokane native. Spec Larkin was a member of the First Infantry Division, Troop A, Fourth Cavalry stationed about 50 to 100 miles north of Saigon, his brother reported. Spec. Larkin was the son of Mrs. Bertha Larkin, E3328 Jackson, a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Hospital but now in Los Angeles visiting her two daughters.
Wounded Earlier
He joined the Army in Spokane in the fall of 1964 and went to Viet Nam last February. During the same month he was founded in the face by grenade fragments while operating an armored personnel carrier, his brother reported. More recently Spec. Larkin was decorated for his part in driving an armored personnel carrier in a mine field until it was disabled then helping drive off an attack with machine gun fire, his brother reported. Other relatives include two sisters, Mrs. Jose (Roberta) Felix and Mrs. Edwin Fabrenback, both of Los Angeles. (Spokesman Review, Spokane WA)
