Wouldn't Write War Stories - Medic's Heroism Cited
"Mom, I don't want to tell you any war stories," Sgt. Archie W. Morris, 23, a paratrooper medic, wrote home before he died of wounds 21 Aug (1967).
Morris, a 1st Cavalry Division squad leader, could have told one of the Vietnam war's greatest stories of gallantry.
Last Night his mother, Mrs. Jack (Lorraine) Richie, was presented the Silver Star and Purple Heart in a ceremony at her home, 2934 S. Edmunds St., by Chaplain (Maj.) James E. Hansen, Fort Lawton post chaplain.
Morris was wounded fatally on a mission in the Soui Ca Valley. He had moved among wounded comrades to treat them "with total disregard for his own safety," the citation read. He exposed himself to intense automatic weapons fire in doing so.
After he had treated all the wounded lead men, he again ran through intense fire to aid other wounded. It was then that he was wounded.
Morris, who attended Cleveland High School entered the Army in October, 1964. He volunteered for Vietnam duty and arrived there last May.
His father, Wayne J. Morris, lives at 7222 Second Ave S. (Seattle Times, Seattle WA, Friday, 5 Jan 1968)

Posthumous Award - MOTHER GIVEN SON'S MEDALS
The mother of the sergeant stood straight and proud Thursday night as a chaplain presented her the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals her son won when he died at Sous Ca Valley, Vietnam. the citation ready by Major James E. Hansen, Ft. Lawton post chaplain, said Sgt. Archie W. Morris, 23, saved the lives of many of his First Cavalry Division buddies before he fell mortally wounded last 21 Aug (1967)
He was just a little, tiny kid -- 5 feet 4 1/2 inches and 135 pounds." said the mother, Mrs. Wayne J. Morris
The sergeant braved intense North Vietnamese automatic weapons fire to aid his wounded comrades, the citation said.
"He did his part," said the mother. "The service was his life. He was a paratrooper medic before he volunteered for Vietnam."
"With total disregard for his own safety." the citation went on, "he moved from man to man, administering first aid, and saving many lives."
"I've been kind of bitter about it," the mother said. "But he thought the war was right--so it must be."
After treating all the wounded in the lead element, the citation continued, young Morris again ran through the intense machine gun fire to aid other wounded near his original position. It was there he died.
"I'm proud of him," said his mother, "I'm real proud of him. But it just doesn't bring him back." Seattle AP (Bremerton Sun, Bremerton WA 5 Jan 1968)

Whidbey Pilot Lost Over China
Lt. (j.g.) J. Forrest Trembley Jr. of Spokane may have been the pilot whom Red Chinese claim they captured after he parachuted from his crippled Navy fighter over China's Kwangsi Province.
Peking Radio reported in a Chinese- language broadcast monitored in Tokyo that one of four American fliers in two U. S. Navy fighters shot down was captured and indicated the others were killed.
Trembley's wife said here the Navy informed her that her husband was missing in action. She said she was instructed to release only her husband's name, rank, serial number and date of birth to the public for Trembley's "own security."
She said a report that her husband may have strayed over the Red China border and disappeared did not conflict with what she had been told, but she referred all other questions to the 13th Naval District in Seattle.
A spokesman for the district confirmed that Trembley was missing and could have gone off course into "Red China air space" but declined to say if the pilot was down inside Red China.
Sources in Washington, D. C., said Trembley's plane was last seen heading into a cloud over North Vietnam about 1 1/2 miles from the Red China border. A beeping sound was heard a short while later indicating the pilot had ejected.
Trembley was from Attack Sqdn 196, which was based at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station before being sent to the Far East. Spokane newspaper article - (The Bellingham Herald, Bellingham WA, Wednesday, 29 Aug 1967)

(MIA information Extracted from P.O.W.Network.org)
Lieutenant Commander "J" Forrest G. Trembley was born 28 May 1942 at Norwich CT. His town of record was Spokane WA. He was a member of Attack Squadron 196, that flew from the USS CONSTELLATION. On 21 Aug 1967 He was the bombardier/navigator aboard one of 4 Intruders assigned to strike the Duc Noi rail yard four miles north of Hanoi. On their way to the target his craft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. Instead of returning to the ship alone the crew continued to the target. A weather front had developed behind them. After reaching the target, two of the remaining Navy Aircraft were forced by weather and anti-aircraft fire into Chinese Air Space and were shot down. Some of these men were captured and later released. There was never any word about Trembley. His body was never found. (P.O.W. Network has a very detail accounting of this incident... 3 Navy Planes and 2 Air Force Bombers were shot down on that mission in 21 Aug 1967.)
