Larry Merrill, Army Specialist. Funeral Services are being arranged by Columbia Funeral Home for Army Specialist 4th class Larry A. Merrill, 20, of 3138 34th Ave. S., who was killed Saturday 2 Sep (1967) about 250 miles from Saigon when the truck in which he was riding hit a land mine. Born in Omaha NE, Specialist Merrill lived in Seattle the past 10 years. He attended Franklin High School and joined the Army in December 1965. He was stationed at Fort Lewis before going to Vietnam about a year ago.Surviving are his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Eugene T. Merrill; three sisters, Linda and Julie Merrill, both at home, and Mrs.Larry Kupferer, Seattle; a brother, Alan Merrill, at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Grell, Paullina IA, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Addleman, Gretna NE. 22-Year-Old Everett Man Killed in Viet Air Crash A young Everett man who commanded a helicopter on combat support in Vietnam was killed Sunday when the aircraft developed mechanical trouble after takeoff and crashed and burned. Warrant Officer Richard Palmer Mattern, 22, 1515 Lombard Ave., had been in Vietnam for six months and had another six months of duty in South Asia "He felt very strongly at being over there," say his bride of 11 months Diane. "He said he wanted to stay as long as he was needed." His wife added that the Army had prepared all wives for possible death of their husband. "But we never thought it would be him," she said. Mattern, the son of Mrs. David Hofbeck, 1018 Oakes Ave. and Palmer G. Mattern, ... Oakes Ave., had lived in Everett all his life. He was born 20 Apr 1945. He was graduated from Everett High School in 1963 and attended Everett Community College for two years. He entered the Army ...January 1966 and was married to Diane Enger, 22 Oct 1966, Fort Rucker AL. He was stationed at Bien.... Veitnam, 18 miles northeast Saigon. Pollard Memorial Services for L/Cpl Jim Pollard, 20, who was killed recently in Viet Nam, will be held Sunday, 1 Oct (1967), at the Lake Burien Presbyterian Church. The ceremony for the Highline High School graduate will begin at 3 p.m. Pollard was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Pollard of 18624 8th S.W. He is survived also by a sister, Polly. Camas High Grad Dies in Action. Pfc. Kenneth J. Krause, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Krause of Rt. 1, Box 1005, Camas, was killed 5 Sep (1967) when his patrol was ambushed north of Saigon, Vietnam by the Viet Cong. This word reached his family last Thursday. Krause and his two brothers, Dick, who is now in Hawaii; and Fred, who lives in Washougal, were all graduated from Camas high school. Kenneth graduated in 1962. He worked at Hyster Co. for one year following graduation and then attended Clark College, graduating with machinist training. Joined Army in 1966. Krause enjoyed water skiing and working with cars, a friend of the family said. Pfc. Krause had been in the army since May 1966, and would have completed his term of service next May, his parents said. He was born 10 Jan. 1944; and he was not married. His parents were advised that their son had died of gunshot wounds suffered while on the reconnaissance mission. Military Honors Due Arrangements for full military honors to be accorded Pfc. Krause are in charge of Swank Memorial Chapel. Pfc. Krause was a member of Co. E, 2d battalion, 39th Infantry of the 9th Infantry division, serving in the Republic of Vietnam. Of 15 Clark county men who have been killed in the war, Pfc. Krause was the first to be reported officially from the Camas-Washougal area. (Post-Record, Camas and Washougal WA 13 Sep 1967)

Corporal William F. Pelton, .. son of Mr. and Mrs. David C. Pelton, Rt. 2 Everett died Sept.. in Quang Tri, Vietnam, as a result of mortar fire wounds while serving with the 26th Marines. He had been in Vietnam since December of 1966 and was ... to return home Nov. Corpral Pelton was born 26 Apr 1946 and had resided in this area all of his life. He as a 1964 graduate of Lake Stevens High School, where he was a three year letterman in baseball and active in the Future Farmers of America. He attended Everett Community College in 1965 before enlisting in the Marines. In addition to his parents, he leaves a brother, David John Pelton of Seattle: two sisters Mrs. James (Delores) Bell of Seattle and Mrs. Claudia Nelson of Lake Stevens; seven nieces and two nephews. James M. Colito, Jr., 22, of 3118 N. 32nd St., who was killed in action in Vietnam 16 Sep (1968) was a graduate of Stadium High School and later attended Olympic College in Bremerton and the University of Puget Sound. He was born in Tacoma and lived here all of his life. WO (James) Colito was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James M. Colito Sr., and two brothers Michael and Samuel, all of the home; and his grandparents, Mrs. Anna Colito and Walter Stecker, both of Tacoma. Services are announced by Gaffney Funeral Home.
