Hartman Funeral Services To Include Full Honors. Funeral Services with Full Honors will be conducted Friday, 20 Dec (1968), 11 am at Swank Memorial Chapel in Camas, for Marine Sgt. Marvin Hartman. 22, son of Leonard Hartman 999 Ninth St., Washougal. The Rev. Paul Anderson will officiate at the services, with vault interment to follow in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Hartman, who came to Camas at the age of three, was killed by flying shrapnel, on 8 Dec (1968) in Quang Tri province, just one month before his Vietnam tour of duty was to be up. He had been stationed in Vietnam since last January. The late Sergeant, a former student at Washougal High School, was a squad leader with Co. C, 1st Battalion, 3d Marines. He served three years in the Marine Corps, having enlisted in Dec, 1965. He was a member of the Washougal Church of the Nazarene. In addition to his father the soldier is survived by mother Lula Barnes of Canby OR; three sisters Mrs. Jack Miller of Washougal, Mrs. Roger
Kreighbaum of Vancouver, and Mrs. Sheryl Brock of Canby; by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hartman of Turlock CA, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Vina Blevins, also of Turlock. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Washougal Church of the Nazarene, designated Hartman Memorial Fund. (Post-Record, Camas and Washougal WA )
Washougal marine dies in Vietnam Shrapnel from one of our own artillery barrages killed Marine Sgt. Marvin Hartman in Vietnam on 8 Dec (1968) it was learned today from his father, Leonard Hartman of 999 Ninth St., Washougal. He said he had been notified by the Marine Corps that his son was killed in Quang Tri province by "friendly misdirected artillery fire." The 22-year-old Marine had been in Vietnam almost a year and was expected to return home in February. He was a squad leader with Company C. 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Corps three years. The sergeant's mother, Mrs. Lula Barnes lives in Canby OR. The former Washougal High School student was the 38th victim of the Vietnam war with Clark County ties. Pfc. Neas is casualty in Vietnam The death toll of Clark County men in the Vietnam war rose to 39 with the announcement by the Defense Department Monday that Pfc. Stephen E. Neas, 19, has been killed in hostile action there. The young Leatherneck died 8 Dec (1968) of gunshot wounds suffered while on a combat operation in Quang Nam Province, according to Marine Corps officials. He was with H. Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. His death brought the number of Clark County victims of the Vietnam war to 19 more than the 20 that were killed in the Korean war. He was also the second member of the Marine Corps to have been killed on 8 Dec (1968). The death of Sgt. Marvin Hartman of Washougal was reported last week. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard H. Neas of 1709 N. E. 79th St., Neas had only been in Vietnam a few weeks. He entered the Marine Corps last May. He attended Fort Vancouver High School, and then went briefly to Iiwaco High School before joining the Marines. (The Columbian, Vancouver WA, 17 Dec 1969)

Terry Greenhalgh crashes in Thailand Capt. Terry L. Greenhalgh, 28, a former Sunnyside resident, was killed Sunday in an airplane crash near Udorn, Air Force Base, Thailand. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Grenhalgh (spelling different) of Sunnyside. Capt. Greenhalgh was returning from an operational mission and was only 10 miles from the Thailand air field when the plane crashed. He attended Sunnyside elementary schools, graduated from the Sunnyside High School in 1958 and attended the University of Puget Sound. He was graduated from Central Washington State college in March 1963. While on assignment in Vietnam he flew 60 missions and was returned to Castle AFB to train as an aircraft commander. He returned to Lockburn where he became an Air Force commander, flying the KC-135s. In May 1968, he was reassigned to Mountain Home to flight school and was graduated 23 Oct 1968. On 19 Nov (1968) he left Travis AFB for Udorn AFB in Thailand where he had been stationed for the past month. Besides his wife and parents, Capt. Greenhalgh is survived by a daughter, Deanna; his grandmother, Mrs. Byron Allaway, Big Fork MT; a sister, Mrs. Robin Prenniger, Spokane; two brothers, Seaman 3C. Robert L. Greenhalgh, serving with the U.S. Navy in Boston, and Sgt. Jack Greenhalgh, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Tacoma. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Sunnyside, and was active in the Boy Scouts. Capt. Greenhalgh's body is being brought to Sunnyside for funeral services.
