Luther Albert Lono was born 12 Jun 1931. His town of record was Tacoma WA. His unit was VMA 242, MAG 11. On 29 Sep 1969 he was the pilot of an A6A with 1Lt. Patrick R. Curran, serving as bombardier navigator. They were on an armed reconnaissance mission in support of Seventh U.S.A.F. operations over Laos. The mission proceeded without incident until 8:50 p.m., the Airborne Tactical Air Control aircraft lost contact with the Lono and Curran. The last radio contact had been about 25 miles west of Khe Sanh. No one saw it go down and two hours later they were declared over due and an electronic search began. A emergency signal was heard in the early hours of 30 Sep but no contact was made. A visual search was made on the 30th and no sign of the crew or aircraft was found. On 11 Feb 2000 remains to two Americans were returned to the US from Laos and on 16 Jul 2001 it was announced that Major Luther A. Lono was home at last.
