Lt. Owen Ted McCandlis, 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry, U.S. Army, died 5 Feb (1970) in Vietnam. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCandlis of Snohomish. Funeral arrangements will be made by Purdy and Dawson Funeral Home. Snohomish (Everett Herald 1970)

McCandlis Funeral Will Be Held in Snohomish Funeral Services will be held in Snohomish for Lt. Owen T. McCandlis, a Cheney resident who died 5 Feb (1970) in Viet Nam. Lt. McCandlis, a member of the 5th Cavalry Regiment of the 5th Infantry Division was serving in the DMZ with an Army merchanized infantry unit. He was killed in non-hostile action apparently the result of an accident, his wife Elaine said. Mrs. McCandlis, who is living in Cheney but whose home is Walla Walla, said her husband was a graduate of Eastern Washington State College. Cpl. Schwintz Rites To Be Held. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Bob Schwintz, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion T.Schwintz, of 810 N. Prospect St., who died in action 12 Feb (1970), in Vietnam, was born in Tacoma, was a 1967 graduate of Stadium High School and attended Tacoma Community College for a year.He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Bill, of the home; two sisters, Kathy of the home, and Mrs Alice Fritch of Seattle. Services will be announced by Tuell Funeral Home. Harbor Soldier Dies in Vietnam. Archie Norman Wade, 21, a Harbor native died from an accident during a mission in Vietnam 12 Feb (1970). Word of the death was received Sunday. Army Pvt. Wade was born 6 Jul 1948, in Aberdeen, and attended Hoquiam schools. He was active in Boy Scouts. He enlisted in the Army in December of 1967, and took helicopter mechanic training in Alabama. He was later sent overseas in Korea, and was later put on detached service in Japan. After a leave at home last May he was sent to Germany, and went to Vietnam in July. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Wade, operate Jim's Shoe Repair, 212 S. H. St. Aberdeen. They live at 2643 Bay Ave., Hoquiam. Besides his parents, survivors include three brothers, Harry, Loren, and Lloyd, all of Hoquiam; and a grandmother, Mrs. Elvira Wade, Hoquiam. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Oestreich Funeral Home. (The Daily World, Aberdeen WA, 16 Feb 1970)

Archie Wade Funeral for Army Spec. 5 Archie Wade will be at 11am Tuesday in the Oestrich Funeral Chapel, with John Covert officiating. A military honor guard from Ft. Lewis will hold rites. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. (The Daily World, Aberdeen WA, 19 Feb 1970)

Toppenish man killed in war
    Pfc. Michael Steven Gryder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Beddoe, Toppenish was killed in Vietnam 18 Feb (1970).
    Pfc. Gryder, who would have been 21 on 26 Mar (1970), entered the U.S. Army 29 Jun 1969. He received training at Ft. Lewis and Ft. Sill OK. He had been in Vietnam for two months with the Field Artillery.
    He was born in Virginia and had been a Toppenish resident since the age of three. He graduated from Toppenish Senior High in 1969.
    Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Marlene Beddoe and Shirley Beddoe, both of Toppenish; and his grandmother, Mrs. Doris Dickinson of Moxee.
    Funeral services are pending the arrival of the body from Vietnam. (Toppenish Review, Toppenish, 5 Mar 1970)

(Remembrance for Pat Pompella) My husband was a classmate of Pat Pompella. When our daughter was 17 years old she visited Washington D.C. and the Memorial Wall. Sgt. Patrick O. Pompella, 20, Rt. 3 Arlington, died Feb. 18 in South Vietnam from injuries received during a combat operation. Born 8 Jun 1949 in Arlington, he had lived in the White Horse area since birth. He was graduated from Darrington High School in 1967 and had been in the Army for a year. He had served in South Vietnam for six months. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Slater of Rt. 3 Arlington; three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Badgley of Rt. 5 Arlington, Mrs. Leslie Soule of Hoquiam and Miss Laura Slater, at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Peavey of Darrington and Mrs. Florence Pompella of Arlington; and two nieces. Services will be announced from Weller Funeral Home. (Everett Herald)
