Pfc. Hopkins VN Casualty Pfc. Ronald F. Hopkins, 20, of 7611 122nd St. E., Puyallup, was killed in action in Vietnam last Thursday, his wife, Gloria, has been informed. Hopkins went to Vietnam 14 Dec (1970) and was a field medic with the Army's 1st Air Cavalry. He was born in Tacoma and was a 1967 graduate of Puyallup High School. Hopkins was a member of First Christian Church in Puyallup and had been an employe of Fibreboard Corp. in Sumner. Survivors besides his wife, of the home, include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George D. Hopkins, of Puyallup; three brothers, Terry W., of Longview, and Robert W. and Steven G., both of Puyallup; a sister, Kathy M., of Puyallup; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Nannie Cawthon and Mrs. Beulah Hopkins, both of Murfreesboro TN. Larry P. Bartlett Services were held Tuesday at Willamette National Cemetery, in Portland OR for Sgt 1 C. Larry P. Bartlett, killed in action 9 Jan while on a combat mission in South Vietnam. A member of the U. S. Army Special Forces, he was born in Minnesota and came here in 1962. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence T. Bartlett, of 10309 E. Polk St. (Tacoma News Tribune, Tacoma WA, 22 Jan 1970)

Larry Bartlett is a sentence or two in Chapter 13 Daniel Boone Again "Northeast Cambodia was getting hot, very hot. On 9 January a CCS team led by Sergeant First Class Larry Bartlett with Sergeant Richard Thomas as One-One, was moving toward an LZ about 30 miles south of where RT Vermont had been hit when a large NVA force pounced on them killing both Americans. Family Remembrance for John Sparks by his sister B. J. Hergesheimer) He died as a result of injuries received while gunner on military vehicle when an explosion occurred in the vehicle. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He is buried at Meyers Falls Cemetery, Kettle Falls, WA. Area Soldier Dies in Vietnam Kettle Falls Army PFC John W. Sparks, 20, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Sparks of Rice, was killed in action last week in Vietnam, two weeks after his arrival in that country. Born Sept. 24, 1949 at Colville, Sparks was a resident of the Kettle Falls area all his life. He was a '68 graduate of KHS and was a prominent figure on that school's athletic program. He entered the service last August. Survivors include, in addition to his parents, a sister, Betty Jo Hergesheimer of Cedonia; three brothers, S/Sgt. Robert Sparks in Germany and Delbert and Roy Sparks, both of Kettle Falls and a grandmother, Mrs. Louis Koerner of Kettle Falls. Funeral services are pending at the Bastian Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Saturday at Meyers Falls Cemetery for Army PFC John W. Sparks, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Sparks of Rice, who was killed in action in South Vietnam. Rev. Robert F. Baler officiated. Pallbearers were Sam Lotze, Mike Tracey, Tony Stoddard, Ray Fosback, Rod DuPuis and Rick Hoffman.

Sgt. Monte DeVere, formerly of Norland, was reported killed in action this week, an Army spokesman has announced. Sergeant DeVere was assigned to the 483rd Military Police Platoon of the third brigade, 9th Infantry Division. He was serving his third tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. He is survived by a daughter Patricia Gayle 13, a student at Chimacum. The sergeant was last home 25 Aug,1969. Details surrounding Sergeant DeVere's death are not known at this time. Services for the sergeant will be announced as soon as disposition is known. (Port Townsend Leader, Port Townsend WA 15 Jan 1970)

Funeral Friday for Sgt DeVere, killed in Vietnam. Full military honors will be accorded Sgt Monte R. DeVere who was killed last week in action in Vietnam. Funeral services for Sergeant DeVere are set for 1pm. Friday at Owyen Funeral Home with burial following at Fort Worden Cemetery. Sergeant DeVere had been a professional soldier 27 years, entering the service at Downey,Cal.18 Oct. 1942. He was 48 when he was killed in action in Long An Province, Republic of Vietnam,Jan.10th.Survivors include two daughters, Beatrice Fields of California and Patty Gayle DeVere of Norland; his mother, Mrs. Nellie DeVere of Willow Springs, MO; two brothers, Dwayne of Willow Springs and Ted of Tacoma; three sisters, Susanna Lee and Soha of San Coulee, Mont., and Quanita McCarty of Colorado Springs, CO. Survived by his wife, Carma Sue Denny, attending WSU, Pullman WA; 2 sons, Lance David Denny and Eric James Denny, also of Pullman WA; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Denny, Spokane; sister, Mrs. Kathleen Dianna Hever, Seattle WA; grandfather, Joseph C. Hodge, Spokane. A member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity. Obituary Capt. Jerry D. Denny, a Spokane Army officer serving with the 25th Division in Vietnam was killed 31 Jan (1970) when the plane in which he was a passenger was shot down by enemy gunfire. Denny, 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Denny, #918 Thirty-fifth and husband of Carma Sue Denny, Washington State University, was the 78th Spokane County combat death. In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves two small sons, Lane David, 2 1/2, and Eric, eight months, and a sister, Mrs. John (Kathleen Diane) Heyer, Seattle. His father is district manager for Realsilk, Inc. 3 Months in Vietnam Capt. Denny had been stationed in Vietnam since 1 Nov 1969. Prior to his assignment in Vietnam, he had been stationed at Fort Sill OK and Fort McClellan AL for 18 months. Born in Omaha, he came to Spokane at age 4. Local Man Killed in Vietnam Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ronald Joe Fulton, a native of Walla Walla, was killed in a helicopter crash in Vietnam. Fulton was reported missing 31 Jan (1970) after the aircraft was shot down. Born 4 Aug 1942, he was the son of the late Ronald E. Fulton and Mrs. Alene Gruber. Fulton graduated in 1960 from Walla Walla High School. In the summer of 1962 he married Marlene Warnicke, a local girl. He enlisted in the Army the same year. This was his second tour of South Vietnam. Survivors include the widow Marlene, and two children, Lisa and Ronald, all of Lompoc CA, his mother, Mrs. Gruber, Bremerton, a brother, Leo J. Fulton, Yakima, and a grandmother, Mrs. M.D. Clayton, Dixie. Fulton is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the Walla Walla area.
