Sgt1C Rudolfo Alura, 41 of 10256 Diamond Blvd. SW., who died 4 Mar (1970) in Vietnam, was born in the Philippine Islands and lived in Tacoma since 1958. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Flordellia C.; three sons, Robert C., Steve C. and Eddie C. all of the home; a daughter, Linda C., of the home and his parents, Brother and sisters, all in the Philippines. 'BUCK' ATOR KILLED IN WAR
Army Maj. Richard D. "Buck" Ator, 32, of Moses Lake, was killed Thursday (5 Mar 1970) when his base camp at Don Duong District, where he was designated as a senior advisor to the South Vietnamese, was attacked He was on his second tour of duty in Vietnam.
Maj. Ator was born 10 Mar 1937, in Plentywood MT. He moved to Moses Lake with his family in 1950 and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1955. At MLHS he captained the football team and also played basketball. He continued his education at Eastern Washington State College, Cheney, where he played basketball and graduated in 1962. He was awarded high military honors in the ROTC program on graduation from EWSC, and received a regular Army commission as a second lieutenant in June, 1962
In his first tour to Vietnam from the September, 1966, to August, 1967, he was attached to the headquarters of General A. S. Collins Jr. who commanded the 4th Infantry. On part of this tour, Ator, then a captain, commanded an infantry company. On return from Vietnam, he underwent special studies in the Vietnamese language. Returning to Vietnam last November, he was designated a senior advisor.
He was married in October, 1956, in Moses Lake, to the former Joanne Parker of Moses Lake. Survivors include is widow, Joanne and two children, Lisa, 6, and Steven, 2, of Moses Lake; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ator of Moses Lake; and three sisters, Mrs. Richard Yale of East Greenwich RI, Mrs. Lowell Davis of Seattle,, and Mrs. Theodore Schultz of Olympia. Maj. Ator's father is heavy equipment operator.
The body is scheduled to arrive tomorrow in Oakland CA. Maj. Dean M. Owen of Ft. Rucker AL, a lifelong friend of Maj. Ator, reportedly with escort the body from Oakland to Moses Lake. Wainwright lost in Vietnam. Another Clark County man has died in the Vietnam War. Word was received Tuesday by Mr. and Mrs.Roland Wainwright, Vancouver of the death of their son, Pfc. Michael J. Wainwright, 20, who was killed in war action Sunday.The Army man was the 51st serviceman with Clark County ties to die in Vietnam. Born 3 Dec 1949, in Seattle, Pfc. Wainwright attended schools in Astoria, Tacoma, and Morro Bay CA, before moving to Vancouver with his family in 1965.He graduated in 1969, from Columbia River High School where he was a member of the DECCA Club. He also was a member of the First Congregational Church and was active in the United Church Youth. Pfc. Wainwright enlisted in the Army last 4 Aug (1969) 4th. He underwent basic training at Fort Leonard Wood MO, and attended artillery school at Fort Sill OK, before leaving for Vietnam 5 Jan (1970). He was stationed with the First Air Cavalry Division in Tay Ninh Province near the Cambodian border. Pfc. Wainwright is survived by his parents, who live at 103 N. E. 114th St., a brother Richard Earl Wainwright and a sister, Carrie Lynn Wainwright, both at home. Funeral arrangements will be made upon arrival of the body from Vietnam. Spec. 4 Russell Cranston Hibler, 23, lifelong resident of Anacortes, died Saturday, 30 Mar (1970) in Vietnam, as the result of hostile action. He was born 7 Jun 1946 in Portsmouth VA and moved here as an infant. He received his education in Anacortes schools and graduated with a B. A. degree in Sociology from Western Washington State College in 1968. He was married to Jennifer Bridgeman of Bow 16 Mar 1968. Survivors include his wife; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Hibler; one brother, Harry, all of Anacortes, and his grandmother, Letha Hibler of Millford IL. Memorial services were held at 4 P.m. Tuesday, 7 Apr 1970 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church here, with he Rev. J. Robert Evans officiating. Cremation followed under the direction of the Evans Funeral Home.
