Thomas Funke Dies In Action. Thomas Funke, 25, son of George Funke, former assistant county agent here, was killed Friday on a U.S. Naval supply ship, USS Manchester, while it was under enemy fire off the coast of Vietnam. The serviceman, who left here with his family 11 years ago, attended schools here. Besides his father, who is with the International Agricultural department at Nairobi, Kenya, survivors are a brother, David, with the U.S. Marines; and a half-sister, Sally Funke, in Kenya.
