Missoula Remembers Another Missoula and another of my Army ROTC memories. This man, ahead of me in school, and without ever knowing it, became a role model for me simply in the way he wore his uniform. He was, what was called back then, STRAC, an acronym that among other things, identified someone as being a top-notch soldier. As a subordinate ROTC member I remember the smile on Bob Carroll's face, his proud carriage, and what seems still to me to being "in charge" of his life. George M. "Sonny" Gratzer, dedication speech of Missoula war Memorial, 12 Sep 1988

Missoula Remembers Finally, Florian Zahn, Florian and my brother grew up as best friends and enlisted in the Army the day after they graduated from Butte Public High School. They trained together through Basic. AIT, Airborne School, and more. Florian finally went to Vietnam as one of the 101st Screaming Eagles. Coincidentally, his unit came to the same area I served with the First Infantry Division, but sadly my plans to meet him in Vietnam was changed. Florian came from a large family in Butte. He was a real "grinner", a happy, young man, who, I last remember, was busy with my brother making the rest of my family laugh by creating humorous "commercials" on a tape recorder. Florian, my brother named his son after you. George M. "Sonny" Gratzer, dedication speech of Missoula war Memorial, 12 Sep 1988
