Douglas O. Mundhenke Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gable Funeral Home for Army Spec. 5 Douglas O. Mundhenke, formerly, of 2043 SE 88th Ave., who was killed in action in Vietnam 11 Mar (1967). Graveside service with military honors will be in Willamette National Cemetery. Spec. 5 Mundhenke was born 25 Mar 1944, in McMinnville, and was graduated from Marshall High School in 1962, when he joined the Army. He had been stationed in Korea, Germany and at Ft. Lewis WA., before going to Vietnam last month. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan W. Mundhenke, and a sister Janice, all of Portland. (The Oregonian, Portland OR, Saturday, 18 Mar 1967)

2 Oregon Men War Victims Two Oregon men have been killed in action in Vietnam, the pentagon reported Thursday.
Navy Lt. (j.g.) Gene W. Goeden, a native of Cornelius, when the A1 Skyraider he was piloting was shot down during a combat mission over the Gulf of Tonkin. He is survived by his widow, Norma, and two daughters, who reside in Banks. A 1965 Oregon State University graduate, Goeden was serving aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Hancock.
Also reported killed in action was Army Pfc. Michael L. Lawson, 20, of Medford. The young paratrooper, who was serving with the 1st Air Cavalry Division, died in combat on 20 Mar (1967). Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lawson of Medford. Lawson had lived earlier in Coos Bay and Grants Pass. He enlisted in the Army 7 Nov 1965, and was sent to Vietnam seven months later.

Medford Soldier Killed in Action Army pfc. Michael L. Lawson, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lawson, 630 S. Holly St., was killed 20 Mar (1967) in action in Vietnam. He was a paratrooper with the First Air Cavalry. Pfc. Lawson, a 1965 graduate of Medford High School, had been in Vietnam since June, 1966. He was born 5 Jul 1946 in Aberdeen WA and attended schools in Coos Bay, Grants Pass and Medford. Following his graduation he was employed by Olson-Lawyer Lumber Company before enlisting in the Army 7 Nov 1965. The Lawson family moved to Medford in 1959. Pfc. Lawson, the oldest of four sons, enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his parents, three brothers, Mark Lawson, Patrick Lawson, and Thomas Lawson, all at home, and eight aunts and uncles in Washington, California and Oregon. Three more Oregon men have been killed in fighting in Vietnam. Two were from Portland and one was from Cottage Grove. All were in the Army.
The dead: Pfc. Philip McNinch, 20, whose wife Patricia, lives at 4225 SE Morrison St.; Pfc. David William Roberts, 22, whose wife, Sheryl Lee, lives at 7306 N. Omaha St., and Pfc. Gary Melain Ladd, 20, Cottage Grove.
McNinch and Roberts both entered the Army in September, trained at Fort Lewis WA, and Fort Polk LA, and left for Vietnam in mid-February. Both served with the 1st Cavalry Division and both were killed by small arms fire.
Families Notified
There families were notified of their deaths Thursday.
Pfc. Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Roberts, 7315 N. Concord St., was a Jefferson High School graduate who earned his business administration degree
at Portland State College in August.
Pfc. McNinch was born in Lincoln NE and grew up in Portland. He attended Washington High School. His mother, Mrs. Pauline Kennedy, lives in Portland. His father, Ray McNinch, lives in Salt Lake City.
Ladd's family was told of his combat death Wednesday. He was stationed with the 4th Infantry Division near Plei Ku. Ladd was the 92nd Oregon resident to die in the Vietnam War and the 11th this year. (The Oregonian, Portland OR, 26 Mar 1967)

Burial will follow in Willamette National Cemetery with full military rites. Pfc. McNinch, 4225 SE Morrison St., was killed by enemy small arms fire 21 Mar (1967) while fighting with the 1st Cavalry Division about 150 miles north of Saigon. Born in Rushville NE, he came to Portland seven years ago and attended Washington High School. He was drafted 1 Sep 1966 and served his basic training at Ft. Lewis WA before going on to advanced infantry training at Camp Polk LA. He left 17 Feb (1967) for Vietnam. CG Soldier Dies in War In Vietnam
A 20-year-old Cottage Grove Army private, Gary McIain Ladd, had been killed in action in Vietnam, the Defense Department reported Saturday.
A Pentagon spokesman said Ladd died Wednesday of wounds he suffered when felled by mortar fragments.
Ladd was with the Fourth Infantry Division, stationed near Pleiku. He joined the Army in November, 1965, and had been in Vietnam since September.
Ladd was the seventh Emerald Empire man to die in the Vietnam war.
He attended London Elementary School and Cottage Grove High School
Surviviors include his wife, Laurie of 40 H St., Cottage Grove; his mother, Mrs. Everett Johnston, Blue River; four brothers, Raymond, Edward and Jack of Cottage Grove, and Roger of Fort Bliss TX; five sisters, Dolores Rather of Eugene, Pat Starr of Dexter, Karen of Blue River, Wendy and Wanda of Cottage Grove.
Services are pending at Smith Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.
Two other Oregon men also were reported killed in Vietnamese fighting last week. They are Army Pfc. Phillip McNinch, of Portland, who died Friday and Army Lt. Michael L. Sudborough, 24, of Ashland, who was killed 21 Mar (1967) in combat near the Cambodian border.

Medal Presented Posthumously to Gary Ladd
A Bronze Star Medal and citation have been presented to the widow and five-week-old son of Mary McLain Ladd, a Cottage Grove soldier killed in Vietnam 22 Mar 1967.
Major Alonzo Foote, reading from the citation said Ladd "never shirked even the most minor responsibility... he became known as a meticulous and conscientious individual who could be relied upon to see any assigned take through to a successful completion."
Mrs. Gary (Laurie) Ladd and her son, Michael, accepted the posthumous honor at the home of her parents in Cottage Grove last week.
Ladd, a machine gunner with Company A, First Battalion, Eighth Infantry, was killed by fragments from an exploding hand grenade while engaged in combat with a numerically superior enemy force, according to the citation.
The Bronze Star Medal is presented for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.
Ladd, who was 20, was the first Cottage Grove serviceman killed in the Vietnam War. He was stationed near Pleiku.
He also was awarded earlier a Purple Heart "for wounds received in military operations in Vietnam."
He joined the Army in November, 1965, and began is Vietnam duty in September, 1966.
Ladd attended London Elementary School and Cottage Grove High School.

Oregon Man War Victim Marine Pfc. Richard D. Aday, 20 from Portland, died last Friday of a gunshot wound in the head during a Marine operation near Quang Tri, South Vietnam, his parents and widow were notified on Easter Sunday. Pfc. Aday, born in Portland 10 Feb 1947, was a 1965 graduate of Marshall High School and had entered the Marine Corps in February, 1966. He was assigned to Vietnam last November. The Marine was the husband of the former Jennifer McCormick of Portland, who lives at 14921 SE Gladstone St. Their son, Richard Jr., is six months old. Pfc. Aday is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Darel Aday, 2435 SE 92nd Ave; sisters, Mrs. Frances Fredericks and Mrs. Annabelle Busse; brother, Robert; grandmother, Mrs. Violet Pedersen, and grandfather, Winfield S. Aday, all of Portland, along with several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Mt. Scott Funeral Home, are pending. (The Oregonian, Portland OR, 29 Mar 67)
