War Claims Oregon GI Klamath Falls (AP) - Staff Sgt. Michael J. McKibben, (sic) 22, was killed in Viet Nam 1 Jan (1969). He was the 405th Oregonian to die in Vietnam since the outbreak of hostilities. McKibben was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Parisette, of Klamath Falls. He joined the Army a year ago after three years at West Point. He had been in Vietnam since last November. No details are available on his death, his parents said. William R. Liddycoat First Lt. William R. Liddycoat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald P. Liddycoat of 4403 SE 43rd Ave, died Friday in San Francisco of wounds he suffered 8 Nov 1968 in Vietnam. A graduate of Cleveland High School in 1968, Lt. Liddycoat attended Portland State College, then entered officers candidate school in 1966. He was engaged in his fifth search and destroy mission when wounded severely by a mine. His parents were flown to Japan and were with him for three weeks before he was transferred to Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, where he died of complications. Service for Lt. Liddy coat was Tuesday in Willamette National Cemetery with military honors including an honor guard from Ft. Lewis WA. He was the 406th Oregonian to die in the war. Terry Lee Thompson Beaverton Funeral for Sp. 4 Terry Lee Thompson, 21, who died 6 Jan 1969 from wounds suffered in Vietnam will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fuiten-Friesen Mortuary in Beaverton. The Rev. Frank Campbell, principal of Central Catholic High School in Portland and a major in the National Guard will officiate. Mr. Thompson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Thompson, Rt. 1, Box 412, Beaverton. He lettered in football and wrestling at Beaverton High School, graduating in 1965. Prior to being drafted in the Army in March, 1968, he was employed by Terminal Mills in Portland. He was sent to Vietnam in July, 1968. Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Thomas AH. Jr., and Larry J. in Beaverton; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Lawyer, Portland. Interment will be private in Valley Memorial Cemetery, Hillsboro. (The Oregonian, Portland OR, 17 Jan 1969)

Service Due for Corporal Services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Ross Hollywood Chapel for Cpl. Kenneth Francis DuPont, 21, who died in South Vietnam 8 Jan 1969 of wounds received in combat. Cpl. DuPont was assigned to Company C, 2nd Bn, 47th Reg, 9th Inf. Div at the time of his death. He was graduated from Madison High School before joining the Army. He is survived by his father, Francis A. DuPont, 6850 NE Killingsworth St.; his brother, SN Dennis R. DuPont, serving with the Navy aboard the USS Kennebec; and his grandmother, Mrs. John L. Gross, Lastrup MN. He will be buried in Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors. (The Oregonian, Portland OR, 18 Jan 1969)

Everett Native Dies in Action in Vietnam Francis D. "Sonny" Campbell, E-2, U.S. Navy, of Norwalk CA, died in action in Vietnam 16 Jan (1969), three days before he was to have returned to the United States. A native of Everett, Campbell, 35, attended Everett schools, and had been in the U. S. Navy for the past 14 years. He leaves his wife, Ida; two sons, David and Robert, and a daughter, Betty, all of Norwalk; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Campbell of Camano Island; sister, Mrs. Bonnie Brayton of Camano Island; and three aunts and an uncle. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced from Challacombe-Fickel and Precht Funeral Home. (Everett Herald )

Helicopter Crash Claims Life of Air Force Colonel
    Lt. Col. Wayne F. Bolton, 53, of the U.S. Air Force, was killed 17 Jan (1969) when the helicopter in which he was on an operational mission went down in enemy territory in Southeast Asia, it was learned here today.
    His wife, Mrs. Mildred Bolton of 400 Garfield St., Medford, was notified of his death Sunday by a U.S. Air Force officer from Kingsley Field, Klamath Falls.
    Col. Bolton went down aboard a CH-3E helicopter and six other persons were killed at the same time. Details of the crash and its cause were not reported. He previously had been listed as missing in action.
    Col. Bolton had been in the Air Force for 27 years and was scheduled to return to the United States next month at completion of his tour. He had been stationed at Udorn, Thailand since January, 1968. Most of his career was spent in the Strategic Air Command. He was engaged in the fighting in the Philippines during World War II and in the occupation of Japan. He had been stationed in Germany, England, Puerto Rico and at various state side bases during his career.
    His eldest son, Lt. Robert L. Bolton, who had been in the Air Force for 2 1/2 years, located at Phu Bai, South Vietnam, since last February, was also due to return to the United States next month.
    Called Home He was called home by his father's death. Another son. Steven W. Bolton, a student at Mankato State College MN is also in Medford where the third son, Timothy Scott Bolton, has been making his home with his mother since January 1968, and attending Medford Mid High School.
    Mrs. Bolton and her youngest son moved to Medford to be near her sister, Mrs. Bruce Braaten, of this city, when Col. Bolton was assigned to the Thailand tour.
    Col. Bolton was born 15 Sep 1915 in Albert Lea MN and attended the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force
He is also survived by a brother, Glenn Bolton of Albert Lea.
    Plans for memorial services for the Air Force colonel are awaiting information from Thailand. (Medford Mail Tribune, Medford OR, 21 Jan 1969)
