Medford Marine Is Killed In Vietnam Combat
    Marine Pfc. Darrell Vernon Peck, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis John Peck, 674 Midway Road, Medford, was killed 1 Jun (1969) in combat near Dak To Vietnam.
    He is the second Jackson County serviceman to be killed in action during the past week. Army Pfc. 4 Robert F. Rose, 19, son of Mrs. John Miller, 569 Clover Lane, Ashland, died 31 May (1969) in a Vietnam hospital from wounds suffered 27 May (1969).
    Pvt. Peck had been in Vietnam since later January and was with the 3rd Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, Golf Company at the time of his death. According to information received by the family yesterday, the Marine was killed by a hand grenade.
    Born in Arcata Pvt. Peck was born 22 Nov 1950 at Arcata CA. He attended McLouglin Junior High School in Medford and high school in California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at Medford 29 Jul 1968.
    He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a deacon.
    Survivors include in addition to his parents, one brother, Lewis John Peck Jr., Medford; one sister Edna Peck, a student at Medford Senior High School; and one grandmother, Mrs. Edna R. Goldey, Garden Grove Ca.

Michael Cavanagh
      Hospital Corpsman Second Class Michael Howard Cavanagh, USN, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. Cavanagh, 834 S 11th St., Coos Bay, was killed in action on 2 Jun (1969) near Quang Tri Air Base, South Vietnam, his parents were informed today by the U.S. Navy.
      He was killed while serving as a corpsman on a helicopter on a medical evacuation mission in support of Operation Cameron Falls.
      Among the young Navy man's survivors, in addition to his parents, is his widow, Carolyn, and son David, who reside in Ashland.
      Cavanagh enlisted in the Navy 1 Sep 1966 in Coos Bay. He took his basic training in San Diego and hospital training in the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego. He was graduated from Marshfield High School in 1963 and attended John Brown University, Siloam Springs, AR and Pasadena CA College.

Eugene Army Medic Killed While on Vietnam Mission
    A 21 year old Army medic from Eugene has become the 59th Emerald Empire fatality of the Vietnam War.
    Killed in action was Specialist 4 David W. Loew, who had been serving in South Vietnam since October, 1968.
    He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Loew, of 935 W. Fifth Ave., Eugene.
    Loew was killed 17 Jun (1969) while on a combat mission with the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry, 198th Light Infantry Brigade.
    He was a 1966 graduate of St. Francis High School in Eugene and had been in the Army since January, 1968.
    In addition to his parents, survivors include three brothers: Thomas, Daniel and James, and three sisters: Nancy Loew, Mrs. William Fleming, and Mrs. Marvin Kappenman. All are of Eugene.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene. (Eugene Register-Guard, Eugene OR, 23 Jun 1969)
