Eugene Marine killed in Vietnam
Marine Lance Cpl. Lawrence Donald Larson, 18, of Eugene, has been killed in action in Vietnam.
Larson, son of Bertha Wilson, 700 Highway 99N, was killed 15 Oct (1969) when an enemy explosive device was set off during a company-sized sweep of an area in Quang Nam Province. The Defense Department notified his family of the death.
Larson was born in Cheyenne, WY and attended Eugene area elementary and high schools. He attended Willamette High School, and worked one summer at Georgia Pacific Co. before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 19 Jul 1968. He was sent to Vietnam 23 Jan 1969, where he served in L Company of the 3rd Marine Division.
Surviving are his mother; a stepfather, Arien Wilson; three sisters, Evelyn Seely of Wellington CO, Betty Green of Junction City and Helen Larson of Eugene, and a grandmother, Jessie Johnston of Cheyenne. His father, Clarence, preceded him in death in 1968.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Poole-Larsen Chapel in Eugene. (Eugene Register-Guard, Eugene OR, 22 Oct 1969)
