Rites held for young war victim Funeral services for PFC James C. Tubb, Jr., 19 year old soldier from Bridge who was killed recently in the Vietnam conflict were held Monday at the Myrtle Point Chapel of Coos Mortuaries. Interment followed at Norway Cemetery. Tubb, who was born 3 Jul 1951 in Grand Ronde OR., graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1970. He had made his home in the Coquille Valley for 10 1/2 years. He was active in wrestling and football while attending high school. the deceased is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Tubb of Bridge, as well as his grandfather, George Smith, also of Bridge and four brothers and five sisters. Rev. Charles Hasel of Bridge Community Church officiated at the funeral, which included full military honors proved by a special detachment from Ft. Lewis. Coast soldier in Vietnam dies in crash Florence - Army Pfc. Kenneth Jones, 19, of Dunes City was killed in an army truck accident while on a military mission near Da Nang in Vietnam, according to word received here by Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sudberry of Dunes City. The Pentagon, in a telegram to the Sudberrys, said Jones died 6 Mar (1971) when his vehicle went out of control and overturned. He had been in Vietnam since October serving as a truck driver and mechanic. He enlisted 3 Nov 1969. Jones lived in the Florence area for 11 years and attended Siuslaw High School for three years where he was a member of the wrestling team. Mr. and Mrs. Sudberry are his aunt and uncle and have been his guardians since he was six years old. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones of California; a grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Jones of Redding CA, and two sisters, Viola Jones of Eugene and Janet Jones of Dunes City. Arrangements for the return of the body are pending. Funeral services are to be announced later. (Eugene Register-Guard, Eugene OR, 11 Mar 1971) Thank you Oregon Genealogical Society
